Day 106: Randomness

I posted a status on Facebook early that made me laugh.

It said:
Nothing gets under my skin quite like a conservative fundamentalist. And my son's farts. And intolerance. And the smell of baby formula. But man do I love Stouffer's Chipped Beef. And my son's smile. And cheese.
I laugh at myself pretty often actually. I think of something so off the wall, even for me, that i just crack up laugh. So in that spirit here are some things that I hate. Not really hate though, things I just find annoying.

5. The smell of Baby Formula - I am Not kidding. That stuff makes my gag reflex go all crazy. I can even feel the little thingy in the back of my throat start to vibrate. Screw not being able to wait until your kid is out of diapers, I anxiously awaited the day I never had to make another bottle of formula!

4. Ribs - not the kind in your body, the edible kind. Though I suppose that your ribs are probably edible. I have flashbacks to what I now refer to as the "year of the ribs". Unless you happened to be a resident of a particular boarding school in the year 1999, this means nothing to you. Be glad about that.

3. Toys that need batteries every 20 minutes - seriously? Why the hell does Thomas the tiny train need 2 batteries in the train, 2 batteries in the remote and 17 batteries in the fridge to keep it operational for two days. Doesn't that seems excessive? I think that Duracell is secretly taking over the world.

2. Judgmental People - Okay, this is probably obvious. But I'm not talking about your average, run of the mill, judgmental prick. I'm talking about those snarky people at the park with their mommy group snickering and judging you as your son melts down and throws sand in your eyes. Who do they think they are anyways? Keep laughing, I'm secretly laughing because I know your kid is the one my kid is going to bite next.

1. Fundamentalist - I don't generally have a problem with religious people. Okay - that's not entirely true. I do. But I can keep it under wraps pretty good. I can even fake a religious conversation pretty effectively when needed (which happens in my work occasionally, actually, twice last week AWWWkward). But those people that are 100% convinced the end is nigh! and that if god isn't real then neither are we! kind of people. I mean - that's all cool you believe that - dellusional - but cool. But really? Do you need to announce it on Facebook or Twitter or wherever else, every chance you get? Gag me.

Alright - now - for my top 5 favorite things.

5. Chipped beef. It's like...this amazing comfort food that cooks in 7 minutes and tastes a little like heaven, with chunks in it. If heaven were real that is. And heaven was made of dried beef and milk gravy.

4. Sunsets. They are colorful, fluffy, different every single night and rock the entire sky. It's like looking at cotton candy, except you can't lick it.

3. Books. Not these new electronic thing-a-majigs. I'm talking about binded paper full of words. Even horrible books (like the one I just finished) totally fascinate me. The one I read wasn't really horrible, just...cheesy. But still, it smells good. Like a musky library. And the time and care behind them, that the author carefully crafted and perfected before submitting. It's a beautiful thing.

2. Tammy. She doesn't smell as good as a book, and she's not cotton candy, but she is good to me. Better then I deserve. And if she were a big plate of chipped beef, I'd request her for my last meal, that's how awesome she is. I have never felt completely accepted to be me as me until Tammy. And that makes her pretty delicious.

1. Bri & Noah. Bri smells bad most of the time. Come to think of it, so does Noah. Bri's a sweaty, hormonal, almost pre-teen. And well, Noah poops a lot. But I love them both anyways. Bri is smarter then I am, like a little sponge. Noah is funnier then I am, like a little clown. But they are both a part of me. Their smiles are like chipped beef. Okay, not really, more like sunsets. They are the world, my future, my legacy. Pains in my butt, and I wouldn't have them any other way.

Day 105: Like you have never seen before

You all know someone with a friend or cousin or uncles mother's brother that has eczema.

But here it is. In it's finest form.

It eats away his skin.

It causes him excruciating pain on a daily basis that none of us could probably understand.

He's been on twice the amount of benadryl a child his age should be on. He's been wet wrapped daily. He's got creams and lotions out the ass.

So why the hell isn't he getting better? Why can't I help him? Why does my precious little man go through this?

I feel lost. again.

Day 104: Therapeutic

Recently, I have been like a big ball of stress. I don't want to fail, I don't want to run home with my tail between my legs. And I especially don't want to let my kids down.

So, I've been kinda bummed today, feeling a bit defeated by the world.

So I decided to do something I haven't done in a long time.
I colored.

And it was surprisingly therapeutic. Relaxing actually.

Weird.

Day 102: Friends

Tammy's cat had her kittens yesterday!

Noah had been asking since we got the text to go see them. And Tammy's been asking us to come to dinner.

So I loaded the kids up and headed over there this afternoon. Noah and Colby were playing really well together, everything was going fine, and then it all blew up. Bri turned into an emotional wreck, Noah and Colby collided and it all just got ugly.

I looked at Tammy, looked at my kids and said sorry, I gotta take them home. And that was that. But then, about an hour later the doorbell rang. Robert, Tammy's son, was at the door with a big box. Inside was a buffet of different pastas and breads. And even some cat food, because I had mentioned that I was out and needed to go to Walgreens and she figured I wouldn't have gotten to stop.

It's nice to be cared about so much. To be thought of and taken care of every once in a while. I appreciate those small things so much.

Day 101: Weird Weird Day

Let's just say, it was a weird day.

Noah painted. Himself.

Bri taught Noah how to...look weird??

And the sunset topped it all off perfectly.

Day 100: Choices

We all make choices.

Little ones, big ones, choices that don't matter, choices that change everything, even choices that don't seem to matter but then end up changing everything.

It's easy to look at other people's choices and tell them what to do different. It's easy to see black and white and right and wrong when it doesn't affect you. In fact, some of the best advice has come from people that are far away from the situation, because often, they see it the clearest. The closer you are, the more fuzzy the choices become.

I've been thinking a lot about someone lately. I don't really know how to talk about it, because I know they read this and I don't want to offend. But basically, I think this person has wonderful intentions, I think they even believe that they do the best they can. But in reality, the choices they made didn't match the words they spoke. This ultimately hurt me. A lot. And I want to believe, I want to try again, but I can't make myself open my heart up quite right. Even as I sit here and wish things could be different, I can't believe they ever will be.

And I think about those choices that that person made. And how much it hurt me. And how they still don't realize how much it hurt me.

But it's easy for me to sit here and judge their choices. Because I'm me and not them. And maybe I need to cut people more slack, maybe we all do.

Anyways, I sort of went on a tangent, because its been on my mind.

The real point is that I'm struggling with this choice I am making. I have 6 days left. And it will be over. The choice will be made and it will be a permanent choice. No going back, no changing my mind, once it's over, it's over.

This nagging feeling in my heart is getting stronger. The voice from my heart telling me not to do it is getting louder.

But my head...the logical part...knows what the right thing to do is. And because I have vowed to make smart choices, choices that do good for my babies, I will listen to my head instead of my heart. And I will make the choice that's right for the 2 people in the world that depend solely on me. Even if the selfish me cries out against it.
